A specialist in the logistics and transport of wines and spirits, Gamba andamp; Rota, a family-run business founded in 1947, offers wine merchants, grocery stores, distributors, importers, producers, traders and e-traders a comprehensive range of services including warehousing, order preparation, e-commerce, contract packaging, promotional logistics and bottle labelling. These seven professions guarantee industry players unique "know-how" for optimal management of their logistics flows dedicated to spirits, from collection to delivery to end consumers in France and abroad.

A few figures to illustrate this know-how: 5,000,000 bottles in stock, 12,500,000 bottles shipped worldwide, 300,000 boxed products. At its 4 warehouses in the Champagne AOC area, including an ultra-secure, temperature-controlled (11-16°), humidity-controlled and bonded platform, Gamba andamp; Rota ensures "flawless" management of all its receiving, storage, order-picking and delivery flows, based on Gfi Informatique's best practices and Infflux's BEXT WS WMS software solution.

Cutting-edge technologies for ever more efficient and regulated logistics

A long-standing customer of Magellan, Gfi Informatique's WMS solution, Gamba andamp; Rota, a major player in secure logistics (270 registrations, 250 employees and sales of 26 million euros), is looking to equip all its business lines with new technological solutions to implement new processes and enhance communication with its customers. In 2009, Gamba et Rota chose Infflux's BEXT WS solution, under the aegis of its technology partner Gfi Informatique, for the logistics management of one of its sites dedicated to spare parts. In addition to the gradual switchover from Magellan to BEXT WS, Gfi Informatique worked with Gamba andamp; Rota to overhaul and optimize its processes.

From pilot site to widespread use of BEXT WS

Satisfied with the benefits seen on the first pilot site, Gamba andamp; Rota decided in 2012 to equip its 22,500 m2 of warehouses dedicated to the Wines and Spirits sector, and in particular its new cross-docking platform, with Wifi on-board terminals and the BEXT WS WMS solution, deployed and customized by Gfi Informatique. In fact, Gfi Informatique has fully adapted to the specificities of the "Wines and Spirits" sector, translating them into business functionalities such as the fine management of serial numbers, degrees, vintages, and the management of suspended or paid rights. Specific to this sector, importing customers can suspend the advance payment of duties or taxes throughout storage in a bonded warehouse. From the selection of the BEXT WS solution through to its implementation, Gfi Informatique supported Gamba andamp; Rota in all aspects of this project - technological, human and financial - focusing on best practices according to customer typology, and above all on the emergence of new markets, born of new consumer habits. and the best practices implemented by Gfi Informatique.

Results

Gfi Informatique's highly flexible and modular Infflux solution provides Gamba andamp; Rota with new processes and rules that have optimized its productivity, efficiency and logistical responsiveness. The BEXT WS WMS solution from Infflux responds to peaks in activity from October to December, due to the end-of-year festivities, and to the development of promising new channels such as e-commerce and monthly boxed set subscriptions, with a constant focus on quality of service and security. In this way, Infflux supports rigorous logistics, in perfect compliance with the regulatory constraints, requirements and consumer trends of the Wines and Spirits sector.

Outlook

The future of wine and spirits logistics is being prepared today at Gamba andamp; Rota. As Lucien Pitiot tells us: "In order to keep innovating, we have decided to automate the tracking of movements of products subject to excise duty such as alcohols, alcoholic beverages... circulating under duty suspension within the European Union, via an EDI link with the customs tele-procedure system, and thus gain in productivity and reliability. We also want to develop voice preparation, so that our operators can handle even more carefully high-value products, some of which are unique.
