E-commerce challenges your supply chain.

New logistics challenges

E-commerce puts the agility of your supply chain organization to the test, and constrains order-picking times.

Quick order preparation

When a customer places an order, the items must be reserved immediately. In the most optimized structures, order preparation is launched as soon as payment is confirmed. The choice of packaging is optimized according to the size and weight of the items to optimize transport costs.

Choosing the best carrier

Once the order has been validated, even as the parcel is being prepared, your BEXT software suite selects the most suitable carrier based on multiple criteria: destination, weight, volume, carrier reliability, lead time, cost, etc. The label is generated and affixed to the parcel by hand. The label is generated and affixed to the parcel manually or mechanically, and the carrier is informed by EDI. The end customer must be able to track his order in real time.

Managing returns

Managing returns (reverse logistics) is a sensitive point in your logistics. It can be a source of disorganization within the warehouse. The first step is to manage return transport, either by producing a carrier label that the customer prints out before dropping off the parcel at a relay point, or by ordering a dedicated transport service if the parcel is bulky. The warehouse must carry out a quality control on receipt of the return. Depending on its condition, the product is returned to stock, repaired or scrapped.

Packaging is managed in two stages. Firstly, a pre-packaging stage (calculation of the required parcel size) is carried out before the order is even prepared, in order to choose the right type of packaging. At the end of the line, the packaging can be further reduced by cartoners that recalculate the height of the carton. You no longer pay for empty parcels or excess dunnage, and end customers are satisfied.

Advanced features for e-commerce

BEXT offers a number of advanced functionalities, such as mass pick-up of the same item (a single operator moves around to optimize preparation time for several orders). The most-used items are stored in different parts of the warehouse to avoid bottlenecks in the aisles. Order-picking aids drastically reduce errors (e.g. successive product scans, checkweighing, stacking, etc.). The BEXT Sort and Go module enables you to control ventilation hives (Pick/Put To Light).

The challenges of e-commerce

  • Zero error target for order preparation
  • Tight shipping deadlines
  • Real-time order tracking and traceability for end customers
  • Returns management

After the sales and purchasing processes, logistics operations are the most critical points for e-tailers. They are part of the customer promise, and as such, they are key differentiators. Our project managers can provide you with all the expertise you need to optimize your e-commerce flows.
